Why are you allowed to carry in your hand luggage a 568ml carton of milk on an aeroplane ?

I inadvertently put a 568ml carton of milk in my hand luggage before boarding a plane and only noticed that I had when I undid the bag once on board . After checking the rules I saw that milk in a carton was pemissible.!!
