How do I apologize to someone for hurting them, when I think they owe me an apology as well?

Well, I inadvertently told a secret that was only partly mine to tell. I want to apologize to the other person it involves, but I think he owes me an apology for starting the rumors that were involved in the secret-thing as well. I do not really know what to say to him, except that he hurt me as much as or more than I hurt him. I think we both deserve apologies, and I am just looking for suggestions on what exactly I should say in mine.
